The 5 Star Quest Empty
PostSubject: The 5 Star Quest   The 5 Star Quest I_icon_minitimeThu Sep 06, 2012 10:58 pm

After making a few purchases of Fanta (2 Big Boxes, 3 small boxes and 3 dark elf singles) in the vain attempt to pull a 5 star card, I started wondering...

Why my luck is so horrible and why do I want a 5 star so desperately? However, my real question is as follows:

How long did it take or how much did you spend to get your first 5 star card? Is my only hope to attempt to trade for one?

Best way is to find people who sell their cards for cash. Buying cards from packs can be a real poop shoot sometimes. And the developers make out like bandirs. Real world trading might e against developer rules, but that's only so they cant be pinned as a casino/gambling. Use discretion when attempting to purchase cards with cash from players. Most forums don't allow negotiating or advertising of real world trading (for reasons that evades me). And there is the potential to get ripped off.

Also might I add that another reason purchasing card packs is undesirable. In app games such as this, there are people who possess the knowledge required to abuse the mechanics of the game through hacking or even much more simplistic means. I knew one player in a similiar game. He exploited the game mechanics so effectively that in just under two months he had earned $3000 simply by generating cards through his exploit, selling them for consumables (such as time elixir/potions) and then selling them at a rate 4x cheaper than the developers in-game store. What I learned is that there are many people such as him. They hoard in game consumables and manipulate prices and are quite damaging, at times, to what can be very fragile economy's.

In short, don't waste your money. Buy the card you WANT.

Yeah... selling cards for cash is illegal. In Fantasica and here on forums. Bannable offense.

Not illegal. Simply a breach of the terms of use you agree to when you create a mobage account. And if you actually read my post you'd likely see that your comment is pretty null, as I already have covered that. Furthermore, being against the rules doesn't make it impossible to do. Simply use email or text to negotiate rather than doing so in game or in forums. Unless youre trying to tell me that talking about this is against the rules, in which case I scratch my head at you.

Yes, and our forum is one of those forums. We're not here to enable people to break game terms. While I'm not sure just mentioning it counts as against the rules, it's not a good idea to discuss various methods of breaking the TOS, y'know? (;

That is extremely aweful luck, but I just went through the same thing to have someone pull an Alexander immediately after me... lol.
It took me only afew packs my first try to get some, but here is my prediction on what's going on--
When more players join, in order to keep the flow of cards coming into the game slow, they increase the percentage pull rate by adding in more 2 and 3*. I've noticed that people have been buying boxes lately with nothing but those in there.
However pulls seem rather normal, if not increased, But that is simply due to the fact that more players mean more packs being pulled.

If your interested in getting a few good 5* cards check my trades on the trading section of this forum, and then feel free to Kik me your offer @ Wra1th.

(And I know how bad it sucks to spend that money and pull nothing. And all though it is against regulations it does seem the only way you can ever get a fain deal with Mobi is to just buy other peoples cards, which is sad, because if you're spending money on the game you should be getting more bang for your buck)

Here's some other food for thought for those cash players. Although the apple store does not have an official refund policy, they do dish out refunds in the right circumstances. I myself was refunded $304 spent on another tcg. The developers used underhanded and misleading advertising tactics, exaggerated drop rates and were not open or communicable when trying to resolve problems through email. I contacted apple and gave them the story, although slightly exaggerated. Getting your money back is as simple as accusing an app of falsely advertising. I can pull up my email correspondence with apple for anyone who would like to take a closer look.

I'm not the only person to do this, in fact I know many who have. I also know a few people who were denied a refund. Likely because of poor wording in their complaints.

Thanks Red and Super for the posts and advice. The sad thing is I purchased 2 more big boxes today, with Miriam being the only "High Drop Rate" character I got out of 28 cards. Super, I agree with your hypothesis regarding drop rates, as my first box purchase ever had no 2 stars, and the last 2 I purchased today were chock full o 2s. I find it highly suspect that I still see double draws on 5 and 6 stars on the card pack list, while I am coming up short.

I guess my next question would be who to contact on the Fantasica side of things to allow them a chance to resolve the issue. I guess the normal help link for starts. I think I am upwards of 120 bucks so far, with nothing better than a 4 star. I actually do feel like I have been ripped off....

I wouldnt get your hopes up to get anything from the devs. First you'll receive an automated email response acknowledging your email an suggesting you use the FAQ. Then an English customer support rep will review your email and decide wether or not to pass it on to the devs. Then the devs will say, "sorry but chance to get rare is not guarantee. We don't alter the rates. We can't give you cards"

There are not that many cards in this game. I have purchased at least 5 big boxes and 3 little boxes in total, not including dark elves. So out of 88 individual draws, I wonder what the odds of actually getting a 5 star card really is? To be perfectly honest, I feel like with all the "support" I have given the game, I deserve a 5 star card. Maybe that is the worng attitude to have, but it is honest.

Reading all of these 200 + dollars spent with no real result is really holding me back from buying anything in this game.. I know I have terrible luck with these kind of 'random' cash items, as one of the last game played being Nexon with their random cash item bs. I don't know how it worked in japan, but I don't want to spend so much money for a phone game, especially with so many good games like GW2 out at the moment Sad

Feels like playing slots with reward being a card instead of money No

I bought one Megabox (My first purchase from Mobage/Fantasica) and I got Elena. My theory is:

Whenever a player pulls a rare card from a Megabox, Regular Box or Premium Ticket, there is often a varying amount of time between pulls. However; rare card distribution is in fact based on amount of premium box tickets pulled. Therefore; if there are more people buying boxes, then the amount of time in between rare pulls will be lower. If there isn't, then the rare pulls will happen from one to three hours in between since no one is buying! That's why there's often only one to two rare pulls in the morning (0:01 to about 4:00 Fantasica Time) whereas later on in the day more people are buying boxes, making rare card pulls every few hours.

I'm supporting my hypothesis by the fact that with the new "High Drop Rate" more people bought boxes at day one, making card pulls much more often and regularly.

I just downloaded this game today and bought my first large box (14 premium packs). I ended up with Hildegarde 5* as one of the cards in my first pack. Later in the day I decided to buy another large box and received Sofia. 5* (not as awesome as Hilde, but still looks like a solid card). If I had read this post before then, I likely wouldn't have spent any money as those odds sound extremely bad.

Hope you have better luck on future pulls.

I've thought about this before. I've seen pulls happen every 5-10 min, such as when the 200k DL thing worked out; otherwise every hour or two.

It could be time-based, but it could also be simple statistics. It's possible to manipulate drop rates so that cards drop every so often, and while it will look like it's every x number of boxes or x hours, that's just how statistics works (ie statistically you're going to pull a 5* every, say, 150 cards (that would be a 1/150 drop rate), so yes, if people are buying boxes at a steady rate, then the time inbetween pulls will work out to a certain number of minutes or hours typically).

I guess this is a useless post. It makes sense pulls happen a certain time apart based simply on how odds work.

@Valhades: Congrats! Honestly, I've spent way too much money and gotten absolutely 0 rare picks, and if I could do things over I just wouldn't at all. I suppose this is how gambling gets people. SURELY your luck will change, and you'll get a 5* this time... ? what...? no...? Another $10/20/30/50 down the drain, cool.

People have hypothesized that being a "new player" account enables you slightly better pulls (because if you get a good card after you spent money after you first joined, you're more likely to stay and try again) but this could just be simple luck. I feel like there are people who have had just as awful luck as I have who are new who just don't mention it.

From m experience in other tcg games, when new cards are released they are pulled at an increased rate for a short period of time. Probably something to do with new cards in the random table and the amount of that card in game compared to other cards. Other than that one could claim that new players get better chances but I liken it to the fact that new accounts are given premium tickets and so People re likely to farm them.

I'd be too depressed to count it all up! I've always stayed away from gambling but something about virtual items gets to me. I used to play TinierMe if anyone's heard of that, it's also a site taken from the Japanese and to get items you have to do a lottery system. I read somewhere that culturally it's pretty normal for the Japanese to spend money on virtual items.

Sadly I think that wouldn't help much. I can see the response being -- you're not guaranteed any card when buying a pack/box/etc.

It's kind of sad to spend so much money and get nothing for it (considering on iOS spending $5 can be a great way to support developers) but hey, it works for mobage/silicon. Laughing
