Why do people buy these goddesses cards? What are they for?

Goddesses are used for enhancement. If you use the correct goddess(Anu for Melee, Danu for Missile, Tartu for Magic) to enhance a unit, the unit will gain 3 levels (upto its max). This is particularly usefull on cards over level 100 where it takes a lot of feeders to get the same effect.

They use the cards to level their units.

If you enhance a unit with a matching goddess type, (Anu-melee, Danu-missile, Tartu-magic) it will boost your unit by 3 levels.

The optimal time to use goddess is at higher levels when normal quest leveling would take the longest.

Wow, never knew that. Thanks for the answer. I knew they were useful since everyone is selling and buying them. I thought it was mostly for LP.

Epona is for LP, since her only other use is to sell for enhanced amount of Luna. Which is worthless.
